Carpe diem

Endless horizons  I try to never go anywhere without my camera.  It provides me with the ability to capture a moment that might otherwise be lost forever.  How many times do we throw away opportunities to “capture” moments in time.  It might be as simple as cuddling with your spouse an extra five minutes after the alarm goes off (for the 4th time) or as complex as telling someone your feelings for them.  The horizons are endless when you seize the day.

Sign of the times?

Just when you thought it was safe… They say a picture tells a thousand words.  This one speaks volumes about the kind of week this is shaping up to be.  It seems that I never stop typing…typing…typing.  Writer’s block is not an option.  After a while it just all runs together, and then jumps off the pier.  Hope your week is shaping up better than mine.

Dreams of days gone by…

Oregon coastAmidst the cold cruel world that appears to be Oklahoma this week, my mind wanders back to the Oregon coast.  Such a surrealistic landscape, almost like God lost his marbles at the beach.  Whatever it is, it calms me and allows me to continue on through the cold for yet another day.  Hope it does the same for you.

Alien Pac ManHappy Monday everyone.  Even as I type it I am reminded that those two words are so often an oxymoron.  Far more often you hear the world cursing the beginning of a new week, the stresses and strains caused by overwork and mounting bills.  These fish are going after their morning meal. Ironic that it appears the meal is going after them.  Stay calm, we’ll get throught this one together.

No respect for ancient stones.Ever feel like you are constantly pushing against impossible odds?  I know many of you are teachers and feel this way often.  What you may not realize is that the same feeling pervades most occupations.  This week it has definitely been looming on my job.  I guess the moral of this photo is that no matter how large the rock you have your back against the worst that can happen is that you get your back scratched.  Kind of weak but the best I can do today.  Have the best day possible!

Epiphany

Hefner lighthouse at sunsetThere is nothing like an Oklahoma sunset to make you reflect on your life.  The broad sky and the rich red and orange hues inspire like nothing else.  At times it seems as though the sky is on fire.  After a long, frustrating day a beautiful sunset puts it all in perspective for me.  Whatever does this for you, take a minute to enjoy.  The world will wait.

First Flight of the Day

First FlightThis was taken on the coast of Ireland in 2003.  I really enjoy the Emerald Isle.  It’s a lot like Oklahoma.  Friendly people willing to help you, lots of places for food and fellowship, and a distinct disregard for traffic laws!

Good morning Oklahoma!

This blog is first and foremost a requirement of my “Blogs: New independent media” class at the University of Central Oklahoma.  That said, I fully intend to make the most of the “independent” part of that title.  I believe that in some way everyone “performs” be it in writing, song, theater, or…life!  I want this to be a forum for all the ways we, the people of this great planet, take the stage.  So whatever you do and wherever you do it, share it with the rest of us!

The picture at the top of the blog is from a High School production of Zoe’s Play performed by Mount St. Mary High School in Oklahoma City in 2004.  My son (the handsome young man 2nd from the left) was in it and it was one of my first explorations in to “semi-pro” photography.  “Talk” to you soon!
